Spectrum Mill Data File Condenser

This program can be used to archive the large numbers of .pkl and .pkl.spo files created by the Spectrum Mill MS Proteomics Workbench software when processing datasets. The Spectrum Mill software creates a separate .pkl file for each spectrum processed in a given data file. It also creates a .pkl.spo file for each spectrum with 1 or more peptide identifications. For each dataset processed, the number of .pkl and .pkl.spo files created can be 5,000, 15,000, or even 50,000 per dataset, leading to a huge number of files on your drive. This software helps to alleviate that problem, without simply deleting the .pkl and .pkl.spo files (which would render the results unviewable in the Spectrum Mill web browser

The Spectrum Mill Data File Condenser software looks for .pkl and .pkl.spo files in the Spectrum Mill specified by the user. If any are found, the program examines their file modification dates. If all of the files' modification dates are more than 30 days before the present, then the files will be combined into one large text file, afterwhich the original files will be deleted. See the Readme.txt file for more details on this process

To extract the individual .pkl or .pkl.spo files given the combined file, you use the Concatenated Text File Splitter tool (also included with this installer). Example data is provided in file TestData.zip to let you experiment with combining and splitting .pkl files.
